Crossroads Church has been supporting the ministry of La Pasada in Rosarito Mexico since 2004. La Pasada is a ministry outreach of Calvary Chapel Montebello and established to reach the people in the Rosarito and surrounding areas with the truth of God’s word. The facility at La Pasada can house teams of up to 40 with dormitory style accommodations. The typical ministry opportunities include outreaches into the neighborhoods and “colonies” where we provide a time of sharing the gospel message, testimonies and a puppet show or skit. This is accompanied along with serving a meal and distributing clothing, school supplies or toys. We also visit and support at least one orphanage where we do the same as the outreaches, but are able to spend more time with the kids sharing God’s love. We also include some construction assistance on projects that La Pasada is supporting. In the past, this has included work on a woman’s shelter facility, foundation for a new home, drywall for an orphanage, and a foundation for a new church facility.
We see the ministry at La Pasada as an affordable short term trip that families can go on to not only teach and encourage our body in God’s world wide ministry, but help our children experience and learn what it means to serve. It’s about six in the morning in Rosarito, Mexico. I’m sitting alone in the courtyard of La Posada, drinking a cup of tea and watching the sun come up. Suddenly tears start to flow from my eyes and I can’t seem to stop them. I think about all the problems that seem to be concentrated in this little town. Can this be why I am crying? We’re here to share the Gospel and serve the needs of others in the name of Jesus and it seems like an insurmountable task. Can we even scratch the surface?
Then it occurs to me that I’m not crying for the people in Rosarito – I’m crying for me! I’m crying for all the years I wasted not believing in Jesus and living by faith in Him. I’m crying for my self centeredness and hardened heart. I ‘ve met so many people here who have almost no material wealth, yet they smile more than I do. I wonder at the perseverance of Pastor Victor and his wife Sonia coping for years with all the daily problems of a people with so little, and not seeming to ever tire or complain. Sure, the building projects and outreaches and visits to orphanages are all important – good things to do that do much good for my fellow man. But what I received from the people I visited was a thousand times more than what I gave.
Thank you, people of Rosarito… Thank you, Victor and Sonia… Thank you God!
